7 Pieces of Equipment for a Seafood Restaurant

There are always the standard pieces of equipment that you’ll find in many restaurants. This will include a refrigerator and freezer, a stovetop and oven, and plenty of sinks for washing dishes and produce. However, there are several specialty pieces that can be particular for different types of restaurants. BBQ restaurants will need smokers, breakfast restaurants will need special griddles, and bakeries are going to have large mixers. Today we’re going to cover the special equipment needed for a seafood restaurant!

What Does a Seafood Restaurant Need?

Because these types of restaurants will be fixing up shrimp, oysters, crabs, and fish - they will need special types of equipment to prepare them properly. Check it out!

Electric Shrimp Cutting and Deveining Device

If you want to make your processes go a LOT faster and easier, you’ll want to have a shrimp cutter & deveiner. There are many quality machines on the market that are both portable but can handle large loads. While these pieces of equipment can be a large investment, they will be worth it for a busy kitchen when you can cut and devein up to several thousand shrimp per hour.

Electric Shrimp Scaler

This equipment can be pricey, but so worth it for many seafood restaurants. Another name for it is a fish skinner, as it can scale ore de-bone most any type of fresh fish or fillets, as well at scale shrimp. They are generally made from stainless steel, which makes it resistant to corrosion.

Oyster Shucker

Oysters are a staple food, and they are commonly used in seafood restaurants. An oyster shucker allows you to remove the oyster meat from the shell, or expose the oyster meat. This type of device has a stainless steel body, an elongated pointy knife, and rubberized feet that grip the utility table. It’s a very efficient way to shucking oysters, especially compared to using a handheld cracker.

Tuna Press & Strainer

This is a must-have in any commercial seafood kitchen in Missouri that will be preparing tuna fish for sandwiches and recipes. The tuna press and strainer attaches to a food preparation sink for easy draining, and can also be used for canned salmon.

Oyster Kettle

It’s time to cook up fresh oysters and clams with this oyster kettle. It will connect to a steam source for steam cooking, and is used for preparing seafood stews and gumbo, as well as steamed mussels.

Trout Deslimer

This is a freestanding machine that is used to remove bacteria from the fresh trout. It can also rinse the fish through a water filtration system. If your Missouri restaurant serves trout, this is a must-have.

Fish Filleting Machine

When choosing one of these machines, you’ll be looking for one that is a heavy duty workhorse. In fact, a good one can fillet up to several fish per minute. These types of machines come with many different features and modes, which can eliminate the need for manual trimming of the back and belly.
