6 Signs to Call a Professional Restaurant Equipment Repair Technician

When you own a restaurant, your equipment and appliances play a critical part in your day-to-day operations. If something isn't working properly, food production could decrease or even come to a complete halt. Luckily, Fast Fix LLC is here to help with all your needs for restaurant equipment repair in Missouri and Western Illinois. Let's take a look at a few warning signs that it may be time to call in a professional to take a look at your equipment:

1. The Dishwasher is Not Getting the Dishes Clean.

You can't serve food without clean dishes, and the volume of dirty dishes produced by a restaurant is hard to keep up with by hand. A malfunctioning dishwasher could be the result of several different issues. You could have a clogged spray arm or a clogged filter. One thing to look for is dirty water left in the bottom of the dishwasher. If that's the case, it might be time to call a restaurant equipment repair technician to fix it for you.

2. The Freezer Isn't Keeping Food Frozen.

Keeping food at the correct temperature is one of the most important aspects of running a restaurant.  Ensuring that frozen items stay completely frozen is also a major key in food safety. If your frozen food items are beginning to defrost while in the freezer, you should call a professional to have the freezer repaired as soon as possible. When a freezer is much warmer than it should be, there's most likely a mechanical problem that requires repair and possibly a replacement part.

3. The Compressor on the Refrigerator is Constantly Running.

One of the most common signs your refrigerator needs repaired or replaced is that the compressor motor never shuts off. This means one of two things could be happening: either the motor is defective or your thermostat is faulty. When there is an issue with the thermostat, the compressor is working extra hard to reach a temperature that isn't correct. Luckily, thermostats can be replaced. Compressor motors on the other hand, are more difficult and expensive to replace or repair. If your motor is bad, you should consider if it would be more cost effective to replace the compressor or get a new refrigerator all together.

4. The Fryers Won't Come On.

For many restaurants, particularly the fast food ones, fryers are a very important piece of equipment. Fortunately, commercial fryers are typically easy to repair and the parts are relatively easy to come by. There are four parts that most commonly cause fryers to fail, including the hi-limit, the thermopile, the combination safety gas valve and the thermostat. If your fryer isn't working properly or isn't coming on at all, it's probably time to call in a professional to determine the problem and get it fixed for you.

5. The Ice Machine Isn't Producing as Much Ice as Normal.

If your ice machine is producing noticeably less ice than normal, it probably needs repaired. Clogs in the water filter or along the line could result in low water flow, which also leads to low ice production. Leaks are also another common problem with commercial ice machines and can lead to low ice production and/or extra large chunks of ice being produced. Ice machines also rely on air flow to do their job, so if something is restricting the flow, it will need to be fixed.

6. The Utility Bill is Unusually High.

One of the easiest signs to spot is an increase in your utility bills. If your bill is unusually high compared to the previous months' bills, there is a possibility that one or more of your restaurant appliances are malfunctioning and therefore using more energy than they should. To find where the issue is, you'll need to call a restaurant repair technician to inspect all your appliances.
