  1. About 50 million pumpkin pies are consumed each Thanksgiving! Make them stand out by using sugar cookie dough or thin slices of cinnamon roll dough for the crust!
  2. The average person consumes an average of 3,000 calories at Thanksgiving.
  3. If you’ve ever wondered which food has the most calories - wonder no more. It’s the beloved pecan pie.
  4. Americans consume 736 million pounds of turkey on Thanksgiving Day alone. In case you were wondering, that’s about the weight of the Empire State Building.
  5. If you’ve always thought that it was tryptophan in the turkey that mad you tired at Thanksgiving, think again. It’s most likely the wine and beer that is causing the sleepy effect.
  6. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds and measured just over 12 feet long. 900 pounds of pumpkin was used, along with 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 3.5 pounds of salt, 7 pounds of cinnamon, and 2 pounds of pumpkin spice … and you thought YOUR kitchen was busy this year!
  7. 40 million green bean casseroles are made each year.

The Most Interesting Find of All

More and more people are fleeing the stress of Thanksgiving by dining out. From Thanksgiving Dinner in a box to just getting out of the house and eating out entirely. This is a big trend that is also rather new. Just six years ago in 2011, only 6% of people who were surveyed said that they planned to eat out for Thanksgiving. Quite the jump considering now it’s over 9% of consumers will eat Thanksgiving dinner out according to the National Restaurant Association.

Where are people going for these Thanksgiving dinners? 31% said that they would eat in a restaurant where they regularly go on Thanksgiving. 30% said they’d pick a restaurant where they go for special occasions, and 21% are going to a place where they are regulars. Only 16% will be trying a new restaurant on Thanksgiving Day according to the survey.
