5 Ways to Maintain Your Commercial Oven

Your oven is often the heart of your restaurant, so it’s important to make sure that you’re both cleaning it and repairing it properly. At Fast Fix LLC, we help many restaurants in St. Louis and around the Mid-Missouri area keep their equipment well maintained and ready for the next crowd to come through. Here are a few things to remember as you take care of daily and monthly maintenance to your machine.

Read Through the Manual

This seems obvious, but there are a lot of things you can learn from the manual that may come in handy during the week. It’s important to know your equipment, and your oven is no exception. The manual will also guide you as to how you need to maintain the equipment. If you have any questions, or something in the manual wasn’t clarified enough, you can also call your supplier to get more information.

Check for Heat Inefficiencies

This is one of the most common issues with any oven - the temperature not getting hot enough despite how you set it. It’s important to stay on top of the door maintenance to make sure that gaskets are getting cleaned properly and replaced in a timely manner. If you feel like your oven is taking more time than usual to cook, or there is a heat escaping the oven, it can often mean that the door seal is loose.

What About the Thermostat

If your gasket is working, another thing to consider when thinking about commercial oven maintenance in Missouri is that the thermostat may have bad calibration. Check on the thermostats routinely to make sure that they are calibrated regularly. You can check the internal oven temperature with an oven thermometer and compare it to the set temperature. If they don’t line up, it may be time to replace your thermostat or recalibrate the controls.

Keep an Eye on the Buttons

The buttons on your oven are the most used parts of your commercial kitchen. This means that you need to pay very careful attention to the buttons on your oven. The oven buttons will calibrate over time and that is why, after some time of the purchase, they may calibrate incorrectly. As you can guess, this can cause improper functioning with the present button - and NOW is the time for a recalibration of the settings.

Self-Cleaning Doesn’t Cut It

Some commercial ovens have a self-cleaning version. However, this is not sufficient for cleaning your oven regularly. While you can use this feature for regular cleaning to save some time, you will still find a great benefit from regular deep cleanings done by hand.
