Energy Efficient Commercial Oven Usage

When it comes to running a business, cutting costs without losing quality is an important task. One great way to cut costs in your restaurant is to make sure you're using energy efficiently. One of the most commonly used pieces of equipment in a commercial kitchen is the oven. You can cook just about anything in an oven, from bread and casseroles to meat and vegetables. Today's blog from Fast Fix LLC offers a few tips on how to operate your commercial ovens in order to maximize energy efficiency.

Energy Efficiency Tips for Commercial Ovens

Saving energy while operating large pieces of restaurant equipment, such as ovens, is easier than you think. Ask yourself how you're currently using the ovens in your restaurant and use these tips to make any necessary adjustments. You're sure to see an improvement in energy efficiency and could likely see a decrease in your energy bills.
  • Don't preheat your ovens too early. Avoid unnecessary warming and idle times by turning your ovens on at the correct time and getting your food in them in a timely manner after its heated to the proper temperature.
  • Switch your oven off as soon as you're done using it. You don't want it sitting there turned on, burning through electricity for no reason.
  • If you bake products that require roughly the same temperature in succession, make sure to have the second item prepped and ready before the first one is done to avoid idle time.
  • Make sure that you only open the oven doors when necessary. Avoid frequently opening them or leaving them open for long periods of time, as this lets the heat out and wastes energy trying to maintain the proper temperature inside.
  • Make sure your flew vent is set properly.
  • Clean your burners regularly and have an annual Missouri restaurant equipment maintenance plan in place. Keeping all restaurant equipment clean and maintained ensures better efficiency and a longer life.
  • Inspect your oven door seals regularly. Defective seals should be replaced immediately to avoid excess energy usage from heat escaping.
  • Ensure your oven equipment is located as far as possible from refrigeration units and other sources of cold air, such as open windows.
  • If your restaurant equipment isn't already Energy Star certified, consider investing in some energy efficient equipment. While it may cost more upfront, it will save you money in energy costs in the long run.
